About Me

A Homebird Who Found Peace in the Outdoors

Hello! I’m Katie, a 32-year-old mum from the North West of England. I’ve lived here all my life, and I can’t see myself anywhere else – I’m definitely a homebird at heart. I’m married to my wonderful husband, Paul, who I’ve been with for 15 years and married to for 10. Together, we’ve got our 8-year-old daughter, Edie, who keeps us on our toes and fills our lives with laughter.

When I’m not being a mum or wife, I work in a nursery with babies, which is a job I truly adore. There’s something so special about looking after little ones, and I’ve recently learnt that working with children was my calling.

But life, as it tends to, has thrown me a few curveballs, and one of the biggest changes has been my journey into the world of camping.

If you’d have told me a few years ago that I’d be writing about camping and outdoor adventures, I would have laughed! Honestly, I was never going camping. I mean, I only lasted 8 hours at a Girl Guides camp when I was younger, and it was more than enough to put me off for life. But in 2022, something shifted.

That year, my mental health took a serious dip, and it became clear that I needed to find an escape. That’s when we decided to take the plunge and try camping – although, truth be told, I was very skeptical. At first, we hired a campervan through Airbnb, hoping for a bit of adventure. Let’s just say, it wasn’t quite what we expected. There were plenty of things we didn’t love, and after that experience, we knew we needed to try something different.

Then came the moment that changed everything: we booked a Yurt in the Lake District for the weekend of the King’s Coronation. Now, this was something special! It was on a working farm with no electricity other than solar power (which meant no big lights, just the soft glow of candles and lanterns). The shower was in a concrete hut, but honestly? It was the best shower I’ve ever had!

That weekend, I fell in love with the outdoors in a way I never thought possible. The fresh air, the quiet, the sense of peace – it was exactly what my mind needed. We were surrounded by nature, away from the stresses of daily life, and it was like a weight lifted from my shoulders. We realized that camping wasn’t just about “roughing it”; it was about disconnecting from the world and reconnecting with what truly matters.

Embracing the Outdoors: A New Chapter

It turns out, I did love being outside! Who knew, right? It’s funny how life works out sometimes. Paul had camped as a child, but for me, this was a totally new experience. Over the past three years, we’ve gone on a few more camping trips, each one making me fall deeper in love with the idea of spending time outdoors. And while I wouldn’t say I’m 100% “cured” or back to full mental health, I’m a world away from where I was in 2022. The progress I’ve made, and the joy I’ve found in these outdoor adventures, has been nothing short of life-changing.

So why am I sharing all of this with you? Well, this blog is my little space to talk about our camping adventures, lifestyle tips, and how embracing the outdoors has changed my life. Whether you’re new to camping like I was or a seasoned pro, I hope you find something here that resonates with you.

I’ll be writing about our experiences with camping gear, tips for family-friendly trips, and how to make the most out of your time outdoors – all while balancing the busy life of a mum. After all, I’m no expert, but I’m learning as I go, and I’m excited to share that journey with you.

Thanks for reading and joining me on this wild, beautiful adventure!

With love,

Katie 🌿
